Wireless Priority Service (WPS) for UCSF Health
If you are a healthcare worker at UCSF and have a UCSF-issued cell phone, your UCSF-issued cell phone is enrolled in a program called Wireless Priority Service (WPS). This service allows you to make cellular calls, with priority, to anyone on any carrier network device when cellular networks are congested. If your UCSF-issued cell phone is not able to make a successful call, using WPS will give you a greater probability of success.
In the case of large events or emergencies, cell phone networks can become inundated with calls, causing connectivity issues. For this reason, UCSF has requested Priority Telecommunications Services provided by the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency for eligible categories of healthcare employees.
WPS is meant to be used anytime for work-related communications, whether it is an emergency or not. Making regular test calls is encouraged, and your test calls can be made to anyone – a loved one, a co-worker, or the official test call number 1-800-818-GETS (4387).
Simply dial *272 before making a call to activate your priority calling privilege or use the “PTS Dialer” app (instructions below). The app can be used to make priority calls without entering the *272 prefix.
Download the PTS Dialer App on your cell phone

- If you have any issues, contact the 24/7 assistance line: 1-800-818-4387.
- If it says you need a WPS account and you are using a UCSF Health-issued cell phone, please email a screenshot of the error message along with your UCSF Health-issued cell phone number to: [email protected]
- To call your contacts directly from the app, grant the app permission to your contact list or select contacts through the app settings.
